County Official of the Year Award

Barb Swanson, Polk County Treasurer was honored by the Nebraska Association of County Officials as the County Official of the Year during the 125th Annual Conference Awards Ceremony on December 13, 2019 in Kearney. Swanson has served as the Polk County Treasurer in her elected capacity since 1995. She is pictured receiving her award from 2019 NACO President, Deb Schorr.

Life Time Achievement Award

Two long time NACO participants were selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for their service to their communities and in their involvement with NACO for 25 years or more. 

Receiving their awards from 2019 NACO President, Deb Schorr are Vickie Prince, Pierce County Clerk of the District Court since 1989 and Janet Suminski Valley County Treasurer since 1995.

Next Generation Award

One county official received the NACO Next Generation Award for showing a promising future by being actively involved in their affiliate groups and by showing a strong interest in the development of NACO through leadership and education.  Presenting the award to Andrea Thomas, Thomas County Treasurer since 2015 is Deb Schorr, 2019 NACO President.

Joe Hewgley & Larry Dix

Outstanding County Board Member of the Year

On June 6, 2019, Lincoln County Commissioner Joseph Hewgley was awarded the 2019 Outstanding County Board Member of the Year award at the annual County Board Workshop. Joe has been a County Commissioner since 1985 and was the NACO President in 1998 and 2008.

County Official of the Year

Awarded to any elected or appointed county official currently holding office that has modeled leadership by example and has contributed to county government and local community activities both personally and professionally.

Outstanding County Board Member of the Year

Awarded to County Board Members who have been in office for at least four (4) terms, have been active on regional boards, been chairman of their county board, participated in the legislative process, and appointed to a statewide committee. They also will have regularly attended NACO educational opportunities, events and meetings.
